4-Port Telephone Line Sharing Device Designed For Security Systems

The SLS4 is a true 4-port line sharing device that will allow you to share a single telephone line with a fax machine, alarm system, digital video system, data line, voice line, or any other communications device (up to a total of four). Those communications devices that are used just a few minutes a day no longer require an expensive dedicated telephone line.
In most applications… Port 1 is designated as the Security System port. Port 2 is designated as the Fax Machine port. Port 3 and Port 4 can be any other communications device. Only one Port Connection can be active at any given time.
If Port 1 (the security system) has information to send, it has priority over the other Ports (line seizure). If necessary, it will disconnect any communications taking place on Ports 2,3, or 4 and seize the phone line. In the event of a power failure, the phone line automatically connects to Port 1, thus ensuring that the security system always has a means of communications.
Port 2 is the default port for all incoming calls. Unless otherwise directed, all inbound calls go to Port 2, which in most applications is the fax machine connection.
Ports 3 and 4 can be used for any other communications device such as digital video system, computer modem, or analog telephone.
Directing inbound calls…
Inbound calls can be directed to Ports 1,3, or 4 by dialing a simple transfer code after the first ring. If for example, you wanted to connect with the security system on Port 1, you would dial the telephone number, then after the first ring, dial *1# *1#. This will immediately transfer the call to Port 1. (If no transfer code is entered, the call defaults to Port 2, the fax machine.)
Another call directing option is to set up the SLS4 to direct the ‘next call’ received to a specific Port. If for example, you wanted to call the system and tell it to direct the ‘next call’ it receives to Port 1, you would simply call the telephone number, then after the first ring, dial *15# *15#. The system will then hang up. The number 5 in the above example represents five minutes (this can be entered as any number between 2-9, representing 2-9 minutes). This is how long the system will wait for the ‘next call’ to come in in-order to direct that call to the Port selected. If the wait time expires, the next call will go to the default Port 2.
These call directing options make it easy to call into a security system for uploading or downloading configuration information. Also, whenever a phone line is active, the system constantly provides the required telephone line voltage to the security system to satisfy its phone line failure detection circuit.
